Carlow HUNT pony club rallies - 2016
It has been wonderful to see so many of our members attending CHPC rallies in such great numbers so far this year. Looking at the photo’s above (thanks to Mick Kelly) it is great to see so many members enjoying themselves with their friends and ponies.
Our first two rallies kicked off in March organised by David Burgess and Emma Kelly giving our Newcomers and U10’s a head start to the year and thankfully they were all very eager to get going. We are of course very grateful and very lucky to have been able to start off the season at two wonderful venues. The first rally was held in Coole Equestrian, Rathvilly by the kind permission of the Doyle Family and our second venue was Pitfield Equestrian, Castledermot by the kind permission of the Kinsella Family. Although perhaps we were a little bit spoilt with having indoor facilities and we didn’t even have to bring our own flasks for the cuppa afterwards. It’s great to have all our new members and their families join us for the chat afterwards to give us a chance to get to know one another. Don’t forget to encourage the kids to bake something nice to take to the rallie’s, it’s a great way for them to practice!
Our first General Rally was held in The Field Equestrian, Ballyadams, by the kind permission of Robert Owens and family on Good Friday where we had one of the largest turnouts of riders. Thankfully after a little stress and lots of careful planning of groups and areas we had a hugely successful rally. It was great to have such a super selection of jumps and variety of things to do, with all ages being so well catered for right down to our 6 year old members.
Following our Good Friday Rally we headed to Curracruit, Bagenalstown, with the kind permission of the Fenlon family. This is a venue all our members look forward to getting out to each year and once again that showed with over 70 members attending. It is certainly one of the best cross country venues in such a peaceful setting.
Only a week later in April we were delighted to be offered another fabulous cross country venue at Lisgarvan House, Ballon, by the kind permission of the Corrigan Family. We are so lucky to have these facilities being made available to our club. Here a smaller number of members attended but the feedback from both riders and instructors were very positive and it looked like all had a good day out, again getting the chance to experience a great range of fences and our younger members had some fun in the water.
We are all very lucky to have such wonderful venues available to us as a club and we are most grateful to all the families who provide these venues. We are also very lucky to have such a high caliber of instructors who we all love having and hope they enjoy their days out with us. We hope everyone is having fun while improving their riding and learning new skills. We do appreciate any feedback to our committee members to help us improve in any way on any events run within the club.

Failure to cancel your place within 5 days of the rally date will result in the pony club member incurring the rally costs associated with the booking of their place, namely €15 per person for the first 2 participants, €10 for the 3rd participant and so on.
You can pay on line or by cheque via the on line entry forms. Once your fee has been paid your child can then tack up and lead their pony to their ride where a tack inspection will take place. This is to ensure the safety of your child whilst riding by checking that all tack is in good condition and fit for purpose.

Pony Club Rules - 2016
All Pony Club Members Please Take Note of the Following Irish Pony Club Rules:
Note: Refer to Irish Pony Club website for 2016 Tack Rules
Riding Clothes:
The most important thing that you need for all mounted Pony Club activities is a suitable hard hat which meets both PAS 015, BSEN 1384 and Snell 2001 safety standards. Crash helmets and back protectors are compulsory for Cross Country activities.
You should also have:
a Pony Club sweatshirt, jodphurs or breeches, riding boots, a shirt with a collar, the official Pony Club tie & Pony Club badge
Pony:
Although the Pony Club cannot provide ponies, it is not essential to own your own. Many members hire them from riding schools to allow them to take part in the mounted activities. The versatility of the Connemara makes it an ideal choice.
There are no height restrictions for Pony Club competitions but do check the eligibility of your pony as those with high levels of points gained in other activities, such as showjumping, may be unable to take part.
Many members bring on their own ponies as they progress through the Pony Club. Irish bred ponies such as Garryhack Bobby and Mr. Polo, who now compete internationally for Ireland, came through the Pony Club.
