UK PONY CLUB INTERNATIONAL TETRATRATHLON
After months of training & preparation the Irish Squad of 15 boys & 15 girls, including Carlow’s Liam Lawlor, headed off to Warwickshire for the UK Junior Regional Tetrathlon. There was a great sense of camaraderie between the squad members & this set the tone for the weekend.
The horses arrived on Friday evening to our base in the Equestrian College in Moreton Morrell. An early start on Saturday for the shooting phase, followed by swimming in the afternoon. Course walk in the evening, to be ready for the riding & running on Sunday. Plenty of questions were asked in the combination fences of the technical riding phase which was set out in the beautiful undulating grounds of the college - drops, dog-legs, skinny’s and water took their toll on many a rider!
The Irish squad did us proud with many personal bests over the course of the competition and represented their country, clubs, families and themselves in every aspect to the highest standard. The boys’ teams came 2nd, 4th & 7th, and the girls’ teams came 2nd 6th & 7th overall.
Liam’s team came 4th in the competition, he personally had a great campaign, and made some great friends. Many thanks to the Irish Tetrathlon Committee and all the trainers who supported the competitors every step of the way preparing for and during the competition. Their dedication and commitment is phenomenal and much appreciated.
What a weekend!

minimus 2016
Carlow Hunt Pony Club had a very enjoyable and successful weekend at the National Minimus Championships in Punchestown with 25 young competitors. The venue was fantastic but the cross country course was certainly testing, the support from parents and club members certainly helped to get our young kids around the tough and technical cross country course with over 30 obstacles. With less than 15% of riders going clear and over 70 fallers, Carlow Hunt Pony Club faired very well when the scores were totted up Sunday evening.
The team of Hannah & Sarah Kehoe, James Browne and Matthew Farrell took home the Sisk Cup for coming the highest mixed team. They were placed 3rd overall. The Sisk Cup has never been won by Carlow before.
Matthew Farrell was 2nd overall in the boys individual competition and Hannah Kehoe was 10th overall in the girls competition. We also had Patrick Doyle, James Browne and Sarah Kehoe in the top 20. We took further honours in the running with Matthew Farrell placed first in the boys running and Hannah Kehoe placed fourth. A fantastic weekend with all kids (aged 8-11) improving in confidence and determined to do even better next year!

Minimus Dinner on Saturday night 28th May
Every year the Carlow Pony Club dinner on the Saturday evening of minimus has been a highlight for the competitors and families. We hope that all families involved in the 2016 minimus, and our friends from the pony club can try and join us in the Killashee for dinner and a chat about the challenges of cross country day.
The Killashee Hotel have offered Carlow Pony Club a private function room for us to dine in on the Saturday evening. This will give us great space to relax and not worry about our ‘noise and excitement’ interfering with other hotel guests and also ensure that we can eat early so that our swimmers can get to bed early! Unlike other years where we ate in the restaurant, the hotel requires a deposit to secure the function room for CPC use only. To gather the deposit, we are asking for a deposit of €25 to be paid for each minimus competitor. The deposit would of course be taken from the cost of your family meal on the Saturday evening.
If parents who plan to dine with the club on the Saturday evening (regardless of whether you plan to stay in the Hotel) could forward the deposit to Valerie Farrell at your convenience.
